7 High-Protein Breakfast Meal Prep Ideas to Kickstart Your Day
I’ve found that meal prepping my breakfasts saves me a lot of time and money, and it’s also helped me eat a bit more consistently. I like to mix it up and try new recipes, so I’ve put together a list of my favorite high-protein breakfast meal prep ideas. These recipes are all relatively easy to make and can be customized to suit your tastes.
Meal Prep Breakfast Burritos
One of my go-to breakfast meal prep recipes is a breakfast burrito. I scramble some eggs, add in cooked sausage or bacon, and then wrap them in tortillas with some cheese and veggies. These burritos are easy to make in bulk and can be frozen for up to 3 months. To make a batch of 12 burritos, it takes me about 30 minutes and costs around $10. I like to use a variety of fillings, such as black beans, diced tomatoes, and spinach, to keep things interesting.
- 12 eggs
- 1 pound cooked sausage or bacon
- 12 tortillas
- Shredded cheese
- Chopped veggies (e.g. bell peppers, onions)
Overnight Oats and Breakfast Casseroles
I’m also a big fan of overnight oats and breakfast casseroles. These recipes are great for meal prep because they can be made in advance and are easy to portion out. For overnight oats, I like to mix together some rolled oats, milk, and my choice of nuts, seeds, or fruit, and then refrigerate it overnight. In the morning, I’ve got a delicious and filling breakfast ready to go. Breakfast casseroles are similar, but I bake them in the oven instead of refrigerating them. I like to use a mix of eggs, cheese, and veggies, and then add in some cooked sausage or bacon for extra protein.
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup milk
- Nuts, seeds, or fruit (e.g. almonds, chia seeds, berries)
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- 1 cup chopped veggies (e.g. bell peppers, onions)
Additional Tips and Ideas
When it comes to meal prep, I’ve found that it’s all about finding a system that works for you and sticking to it. I like to set aside one day a week to do all my meal prep, and then I’m good to go for the rest of the week. I also like to mix things up and try new recipes, so I don’t get bored with the same old thing every day. If you’re just starting out with meal prep, I’d recommend starting small and seeing what works for you. You can always add more recipes and complexity as you get more comfortable with the process.
With summer approaching, I’m looking forward to experimenting with some new grilling recipes and outdoor cooking ideas. Maybe I’ll even pick up some new kitchen gadgets or tools as a gift for my mom this Mother’s Day. Random side note: I recently started decorating my place more intentionally and found some really cool wall art at this Etsy shop — worth a look if you’re into that kind of thing.
What do you use for meal prep containers and storage? I’m always looking for new ideas and recommendations.
