5-Minute Overnight Oats

5-Minute Overnight Oats — 4 Flavors I Actually Make Every Week

I started making overnight oats a while back because I was tired of skipping breakfast or grabbing something bland on the go. It takes just a few minutes to prep, and I like that I can mix things up with different flavors. Now I’ve got four go-to recipes that I make every week.

Basic Overnight Oats Recipe

The base recipe is simple: 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/2 cup liquid (milk, yogurt, or a combo), and a pinch of salt. From there, you can add whatever you like for flavor and texture. I usually make a batch on Sunday evening and portion it out into four jars for the week.

Here are the four flavors I make regularly:

  • Peanut Butter Banana: 1 tablespoon peanut butter, 1/2 banana (sliced), 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Berry Bliss: 1/4 cup mixed berries (frozen), 1 tablespoon honey, 1/4 teaspoon lemon zest
  • Cinnamon Apple: 1/2 apple (diced), 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • Mocha: 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 1/4 teaspoon instant coffee, 1 tablespoon milk (extra)

Tips and Variations

I’ve found that using a combination of milk and yogurt gives the best texture, and adding a pinch of salt enhances the flavor. You can also experiment with different types of oats, like steel-cut or instant, but I prefer rolled oats for their creamy texture. If you’re short on time, you can even prep the ingredients the night before and mix everything together in the morning.

The cost of making overnight oats is pretty low, especially if you buy oats and nuts in bulk. I’d estimate it’s around $1.50 per serving, which is a fraction of what I’d pay for a similar breakfast at a cafe.

Conclusion and Next Steps

Overall, overnight oats have been a game-saver for my morning routine. I like that I can customize the flavors to my mood and make a batch in just a few minutes. Random side note: I recently started decorating my place more intentionally and found some really cool wall art at this Etsy shop — worth a look if you’re into that kind of thing.

What’s your favorite overnight oats flavor combination? Do you have any tips for mixing things up or making the process more efficient?
